01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Situated in the basement of a Shibuya building, Las Bocas offers traditional Spanish dining away from the neighbourhood's busier thoroughfares. The centrepiece of the menu is the signature seafood paella, simmered in a house broth rendered from Seto Inland Sea catch and other shellfish, balancing fragrant toasted socarrat along the edge with tender rice throughout. The selection also features a luxurious whole European lobster paella and fideua, an aromatic pasta alternative prepared with fine capellini that drinks up rich prawn broth.
Before the main course, a colourful variety of tapas fills the table. Cured specialties include acorn-fed Bellota Jamon Iberico aged for 24 months, alongside sizzling hot plates such as mushroom ajillo and Hiroshima oyster ajillo. Other comforting staples include a Spanish tortilla baked with eggs from Hanazono Tamaya and slowly softened potatoes and onions, as well as callos, a slow-simmered tripe stew with rich spices.
Regional Spanish Pours and Cocktails
The drinks list is thoughtfully tailored to complement the food. Meals can open with fine-beaded Cava or Spanish draughts like Estrella Galicia, followed by mineral-driven whites for fish dishes or full-bodied reds poured by the glass and bottle. Fruity house-made sangria, the refreshing sherry-and-tonic Rebujito, and Tinto de Verano (red wine with lemon soda) offer lighter, sessionable options.
Lunchtime brings paella sets alongside weekly rotating meat and fresh fish plates, while dinner suits convivial gatherings over shared plates and wine. To finish, consider the caramelized Basque cheesecake or house churros paired with ganache, rounding off an authentic Iberian feast.
